Alba Martínez
About Alba Martínez
Alba Martínez is an independent producer of music and multimedia projects that celebrate Latinidad.
Raised in Puerto Rico surrounded by music and art, Alba taught herself guitar and percussion as a child. When she left the island at 19 to study law in Washington DC, she found her new cultural home in Latin music and artistic groups.
Alba settled in Philadelphia, where she has had a distinguished career as a public interest lawyer, community activist, nonprofit leader, government official, and business executive for over 30 years. In 2020, Alba left her financial services career to create projects that combine arts, culture, education, and community. She founded Ritmo Lab to produce artistic projects that celebrate Latinidad, the culture that shaped her, continues to nurture her, and gives her a place to belong anywhere in the world. She is also the founder and Executive Director of La Guagua 47 Community Arts Project and its Street College, which brings real-life learning experiences to Latinos in their own community, taught by real people who do the work.
